Inception

Christopher Nolan does it again. With familiar faces like Michael Caine and Cillian Murphy, the director managed to bring the gripping suspense and ingenuity from the likes of The Prestige and The Dark Knight, movies which were both also directed by him. This time, he plays around with the concept of dreams, giving out the idea that if you can get into another person’s unconscious mind, you can find out their secrets.

The suspense manages to build itself up after the first 15-20 minutes, takes a hold of the audience and doesn’t let go, literally until the credits start rolling. Even then, you’re bound to spend the rest of what’s left of the day arguing over which outcome you think really happened at the end.

With a wonderful cast, (Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page of Juno fame, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard to name a few), great script and a fantastic storyline with amazing twists, Nolan takes his audience into the world of dreams, where you’re never sure if you’d ever wake up again.

The Losers

Synopsis:
A Special Ops group goes on a seemingly innocuous mission, only to be betrayed. Presumed dead, they're blamed for a horrendous incident that involves 25 children, just for knowing too much. Stuck in a foreign country, they have to find a way to get back to the US and take revenge on the people who took their lives away, with the help of a mysterious woman who shows up out of nowhere.

Ok, so did I like the movie? Hell, yeah! :D

Plenty of action, knives, guns and comedic relief (provided by Jenkins Jensen (thanks Keren, my bad), played by Chris Evans, with his bumbling lines and ridiculous t-shirts. Oh, and the villain, Max, played by Jason Patric, did a great job of providing wtf moments too)

Oh. Please don't forget the eye candy. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (yes, I know he's old but I've always had a crush on him), Chis Evans (he was awful in Fantastic Four, but those were awful movies anyway. he definitely redeemed himself here), Oscar Jaenada and Columbus Short? And don't forget Zoe Saldana for the guys.

The only thing I didn't like about it was how one of them decided to betray the others. He was so blase about it, despite the fact that they had been through everything together for years and years. I didn't like the fact that he betrayed them (supposedly in order to get his freedom back) and then automatically defected over to the dark side. From a grumpy, albeit good hearted guy, he changed into a greedy, wimpy, cowardly asshole who'd run his best friend over with a plane just so he'd be rich. Doesn't make sense.

Probably would have been better to just let him disappear, and since there are hints of a sequel, have them fight it out then, but that's just me and I'm no director.

All in all though, I seriously loved the movie. And you know what I say. If I walk out of the theatres wishing I was part of that, then I definitely think it's a great movie.

Seriously. Go and watch it.

Welcoming 2010

1. Reliving my childhood with these little munchkins



who helped me find out that Littlefoot's mother's death STILL makes me cry after all these years, and that Sharptooth STILL scares me. I am happy to say that I still find this movie one of the best movies ever made.

2. Reliving my husband's childhood with them



Although I have to admit I fell asleep a few times during the show. Not that the movie is boring, I think I was a bit tired.

3. And of course, last but certainly not least, with the hubby.

The two movies ended right before the countdown and guess what?

Our room has a beautiful view of One Utama and The Curve and as the clock struck 12, we managed to bag ourselves TWO hassle-free, crowd-free, FREE fireworks shows, right from the comfort of our own bedroom.

This is the life. :)

Jennifer's Body

I'm currently house-sitting for my mom-in-law while she's off in Dubai (envy envy envy) after barely a week having touched down from our trip to bali. Man I kinda wish I could afford that kind of jetsetting life.

Anyway, while browsing through her DVD collection, I found a copy of Jennifer's Body and decided to watch it, since I refused to watch it missed it at the cinema.

Prior to this, trailers I had watched and that annoying soundtrack videoclip where two guys are walking through the halls of a school told me that I did NOT want to spend money to watch it at the cinema. The other part of me, however, was a slight bit curious.

Having watched it, my curious half is giving my better half a pat on the back for not letting myself spend money to subject myself to that kind of torture.

Bloody and gory, the movie had a storyline that a two year old could come up with. "Monster eats people, girl kills monster". That's it. None of the characters had any substance, and, at best, it's a show that was built around trying to show off how "hot" Megan Fox is. And since I'm neither a guy nor a fan of the girl, it doesn't work well for me.

This movie has made it to the top of my "I can't believe I wasted two hours of my life on this" list,sharing the top spot with Kung Pao, Blood The Last Vampire and Twilight. The fact that three of the four movies I just named has something to do with vampires, I reckon that it is probably trying to tell me something very important.

Blood: The Last Vampire

The movie sucks. Corny script, HORRIBLE acting from ALL directions, lame-ass CGI, even lamer-assed storyline.

It RIVALS Twilight in ghastliness. Trust me, don't spend your hard-earned money on this flick. Try something else.

What is it with Vampire movies and lame-ness anyway?

Star Trek 2009

I have to admit, I wasn't very excited about this movie. I remember watching Star Trek when I was a child but not the one with Captain Kirk and Spock, the one with Jean-Luc Picard and Data. I remember liking it when I was little, but then growing up and disliking it, simply because I was a girl who found technology boring. Therefore, my spirits weren't that high, and I didn't expect to like it all that much.

I stand corrected.

By the way, spoilers alert. If you haven't watched the movie and intend to go soon, I suggest you stop right here.

Star Trek was quite an awesome movie. Like most remakes, they reset the story, but not the way that most people are doing it now. They did it in such a way that I personally felt gave a nod to the original Star Trek, in the form of an alternate universe that occurred due to time-travel, the after-effects of getting sucked into a black hole.

Meaning, they didn't rewrite the whole thing and declare the old one null and void. They rewrote it, acknowledging that in the original universe, the events of the original Star Trek still happens, only in this storyline, everything changed because of certain events in the future. Geddit?

Okay, so anyway, the acting was alright. I'm not particular because I don't take acting classes and as long as it seems convincing to me, it's fine. Chris Pine did a fine job of playing Captain Kirk and that Syler guy from Heroes also did a good job, I think. I liked the fact that they casted Simon Pegg as Scotty, because I like Simon Pegg. Haha. I have a minor little crush on him and I think he's funny. Oh.. and fans of the original will get a pleasant surprise in a form of a cameo of a certain original character.

As far as the storyline goes, it appealed to me, and the parts where Captain Kirk's dad died to save everyone on the ship was particularly heartbreaking to me, for some reason or other.

But yeah, I wasn't much of a Trekkie, but I loved the movie. I think it did a good job of simultaneously keeping Trekkies' appetites appeased and appealing to the younger generation who don't know much about Star Trek as well as those non-trekkies such as myself.

Overall, awesome movie. :)

By the way, if any Trekkies are reading this, please correct me if I got any info wrong. Tq.

I beg to differ. Watchmen was awesome and I loved it. But I can see why certain people wouldn't like it. Like the idiots sitting behind me who groaned in disappointment everytime they found out that Dr Manhattan's private parts were censored. Or someone who gave his thumbs down just because he didn't understand the premises of the movie.

But I loved it. And now I'm all raring to read the comic and find out if the movie really did live up to its expectations. :)

Watchmen is not your typical superhero movie. Granted, there are fight scenes in there, and those were awesome too, but if you're looking for mindless fighting and fluff with absolutely no thinking in between then this movie is not for you. The action is there but there are a lot of conversations in that movie.

Here's how my husband described it, which I think fits the bill: This is not a superhero movie. It's a movie with superheroes in it. Think about it. It's not the same thing.

"The whores and politicians will look up and shout: 'Save us'. And I'll look down and whisper: 'No'".

Partition

Set in the 1940's, 'Partition' is the story of an ex Sikh Soldier, Gian (Jimi Mistry) and a young muslim girl, Naseem played by Kristin Kreuk, who fall in love with each other despite the horrendous conflicts between the two cultures.

Gian saves Naseem's life after almost her whole tribe (who were on a journey to Pakistan to escape the conflicts in India) was slaughtered in a brutal attack by Gian's village people.

They fall in love only to face opposition from both parties.



It was a sad love story, almost like Romeo and Juliet, yet even more tragic, in a way. The hatred of both parties were so apparent, so horrendously taken to a whole new level that they failed to be able to distinguish the good and the bad.

People were discriminated against.

And yet, the couple love each other so much that one was willing to travel miles and miles in order to see the other, and actually converted to Islam just so he could be with her. This act was only met by more resistance. It didn't matter that he was now a muslim. He was born a Sikh, which meant that although he was innocent of the murders, he was associated with the people who was of the same origins who committed them.

Ridiculous, yes, but no one saw that.

It somehow reminds me of our situation. I know, it is in no way even close to what happened in the movie. And yet I still wonder, what if it was? Would we see the wrongs of our ways and let go of all the stereotypes that was so blatant in the movie? Or would we succumb to the very mistakes that the people in the movie made? Would we realise that people are people and that not everyone is the same or would we point the finger at someone just because he was born of a certain race, not caring at all what his individuality may tell us?

You decide.

Max Payne: The Movie

1. I'm not really a gamer but I watch my husband pay sometimes, and really don't think that's the way the story goes.

2. If you're looking for a lot of actions, guns and bullet time, you'll be disappointed because there's like, probably one of each.

3. Bad guy 1: Let's just shoot him now!
Bad guy 2: No! We have to make it as complicated as possible! I know you want to shoot him and dump him in the lake/sea/river/whatever, but that's not the way! first, you're gonna cuff him. ok? done? alright. I'm gonna spout some confession stuff and make him really mad now. Hey dude, i killed your wife and kid! yeah, i did i did. (Max gets really mad)
Bad guy 1: Wtf are you doing? Let me shoot him!
Bad guy 2: Not yet. Okay, now I'm gonna put two vials of the drug that makes soldiers really powerful and makes them feel invincible in battle. (to Max) haha! I'm gonna throw you in the river and people are gonna think you're a druggie who committed suicide! haha! ... Okay, next step, I'm gonna carry this heavy thingy over. Hey, bad guy 1, bring that rope over will y-... agghh! Oh no! Max beat the shit out of us even with the handcuffs cuz I made him mad and he jumped into the river/lake/sea/whatever! Oh, don't worry. It's really cold. He'll freeze to death! He won't suddenly get the will to live after almost dying and swim out and drink the vials and get powerful and try to take revenge on me or anything.... (which makes sense, but logic doesn't really count in the movie)

4. The whole "supernatural" angels with wings bla bla bla stuff is total bs.

5. the coolest part in the movie was after all the "action" was over and they showed a montage of guns and bullets and stuff. Seriously.

I know Iezu warned us and all, but I was too curious about it, and frankly speaking, so was my husband since he plays the game. But here I am, telling you right now, the movie is NOT worth it.

Me: “Yes, can I help you?”

Woman: “WHY IS THIS POPCORN COLD?!”

Me: “It is? That’s weird, it shouldn’t be. I just made several batches, so I can get you another one.”

(The popcorn was ice cold, which was odd considering it usually stayed warm for a few hours.)

Me: “Just wondering, when did you buy this popcorn?”

Woman: “Yesterday.”

Me: “…”

LOL. I stumbled upon this website yesterday and it's FUNNY.

Anyway, I read the entry above and remembered that my sister's boyfriend, who works with the Ministry of Health once told me that a disgruntled customer sent in a complaint about a food product that was full of mould. Upon questioning, he admitted that he bought it 2 years ago and that it had been in the freezer ever since. *sigh*.

How can I resist you?

I watched this movie the first day it came out, actually, but I was a bit lazy then...
But gosh, I loved it! I mean, although I didn't live during the whole ABBA period, I do remember growing up to songs like "Dancing Queen" and "Mamma Mia" since my mother loved them. I just felt like singing along the whole way through and is it just me or is AMANDA SEYFRIED simple ADORABLE??????
